Traditionally, natural musk came from the musk deer, a small deer native to the Himalayan region and parts of Siberia and China. Mature males produce musk in a specialized gland, and this material was highly sought after by perfumers.

For over 2,000 years, musk has been one of the world’s most treasured fragrance ingredients. Originating in ancient China, India, and Tibet, it traveled along the Silk Road to the Middle East and Europe, becoming a symbol of luxury and refinement. During early years Musk was blended with precious ingredients like oud, rose, amber, and sandalwood to create exquisite perfumes for royalty.

Historically, natural musk was obtained from the musk deer, but today nearly all perfumes use safe, sustainable synthetic musk. Modern musk is prized for its soft, clean, warm, and long-lasting scent, adding depth, elegance, and exceptional longevity to fragrances.
